Happy International Women's Day! At Minc, we’ve been passionate about diversity for over two decades. With 40% female-founded companies in our portfolio, we're not just talking the talk; we're walking the walk, proud of every step.
Today is all about celebrating the incredible women lighting up the tech world. We do love data, so we explored important reports on women's entrepreneurship and venture capital, including European Commission, European Women in VC 22/23, Unconventional Ventures The Funding Report 2022 and others, to bring you key highlights. This overview looks into women's roles in entrepreneurship and the venture capital scene, celebrating their successes and the journey towards more diversity in the startup ecosystem.
2021: A Year of Breakthroughs
Women in senior VC roles are transforming financial outcomes, pushing performance higher and outperform all-men teams by 9.3%.
An inspiring 47% of European VC firms foresee more female GPs in the next five years.
Solopreneurship and Beyond
Globally, 36% of women lead the charge as solopreneurs (compared to 24.5% of men) showcasing unmatched entrepreneurial spirit.
Impact Focused
All-women and mixed gender founding teams are more than twice as likely to run impact driven (IC) companies, up from 73% in 2020. These companies are a major employer specifically in the Nordics, placing behind only the Health and Fintech industries for job creation.
Increased Round Size to Mixed Teams
In later rounds such as early VC and series A, the discrepancy in funding becomes significantly more pronounced. Specifically in the Nordics, all-women founding teams secure less than one-third of the capital raised per round compared to what all-men and mixed teams receive.
As we continue striving for more diversity and equality in entrepreneurship, let's take a moment to celebrate the progress and the incredible women making waves in the startup ecosystem.
